Leggings, Jeggings, and Treggings - What's The Difference?

We started off with the humble churidar made of cotton or silk but with lycra entering into our lives big time, our life actually changed, and for the better.
When leggings initially entered the Indian market girls would be seen wearing them with the humble kurti. The leggings would offer more comfort whilst being easy to wash and care for.
Then came the era when we got flooded with different varieties of these skinny pants and the world went topsy turvy. I have spotted so many young girls making a huge fashion faux pas in terms of how they style their leggings and that is what bought out this post where I'm going to put forth the basic difference between leggings, jeggings and treggings.

Leggings, Jeggings, and Treggings - What's The Difference?

Leggings are tight fitting pants that are usually made from a blend of lycra and spandex with cotton or polyester. Leggings are not the same as tights. Tights are translucent and usually worn with short skirts and dresses to prevent skin show. Leggings are thicker than tights but not too thick. Leggings are worn safely with tunics or tops that land below your hips. It looks ugly if you are wearing a short shirt and your dearie is not well supported by your legwear. Wear your leggings with short skirts, shorts, tunic tops and with your kurti for added comfort.

Jeggings originated from the need to have comfortable jeans. Thus leggings are made of a thicker fabric mimicking the look of jeans yet giving you the stretch and comfort of leggings. These are also skin tight but the thicker fabric gives more support to your backside. A lot of times jeggings come with detailing with loops and pockets.
With the added backside support you can wear jeggings with shorter tops just like you would a pair of jeans. When buying jeggings make sure you invest in a pair that is made of a good thick yet flexible fabric to give you a slimmer look.

Leggings, Jeggings, and Treggings - What's The Difference?

I picked up a pair this winter from stalkbuylove.com which has sequin detailing on the sides just to add some fun to boring winter days. I decided to pair it with a simple sweater from M&S. And while heading out on a very cold day I teamed it up with a long coat with some faux fur detailing.

Jeggings look fabulous with boots specially during the winters so do play around with your footwear too!

Now coming to the third variety of our skinny pants - treggings. Treggings are essentially sleek tailored trousers with the feel of leggings. Treggings are great for office where you can stay comfortable the whole day and yet look polished and well dressed.

Team up a pair of treggings with a formal shirt and thrown on a jacket for that essential meeting you cannot miss.

Whether you pick out leggings, jeggings or treggings to make you look slim and feel comfortable, ensure that you chose the right fabric. Remember if the fabric is thin then your shirt or top has to cover your behind. And this rule goes for everyone, even extremely slim girls should not fall into the trap of making a fashion faux pax by wearing leggings like pants, no no no!!!

Stay stylish always!

  4. I bought these pattern leggings to run in and they stay up, didn't have to pull them up. They are on the heavier side and the black color were not see through. I tend to favor the darker colors and will look to buy more.
