No Frizz, Shiny Hair – Habib’s Hair Serum Review

If you have battled with frizzy hair you must have also tried a lot of hair serums to tackle the problem. I surely have. And now when my hair started troubling me with split ends I was on the look out of a hair serum to counteract that problem too.
That is when I decided to get the Habib’s Hair Serum (from Jawed Habib). I purchased this at a local chemist and the price looked good for the quanity there was. The product is claimed to give you soft smooth tangle free hair and to help you with split ends.

The product comes in a two variants (although ingredient list was almost the same if I remember correctly) and I chose the dark blue one. It’s a dark blue plastic bottle with a black screw cap. The mouth of the bottle has a white stopper which has a hole in it to dispense the product.

The serum is neither too thick nor too runny – I would say its apt as a serum. It is transparent and oily to touch. You need to press the bottle in order for the serum to come out so there is no way you can spill out more than required.

I apply this to towel dried hair to control the frizz. I also sometimes apply this on dry hair to make my hair settle down and impart some shine to them.

I have used this serum for over 6 months now. I have a mixed review on the serum so I will first talk about the things I like followed by what I did not.

Firstly the serum has a nice consistency and very light non-bothering fragrance. It goes on well onto wet hair and hair does not feel oily at all. It does not weigh down the hair yet tackles frizz in your hair quite well. It imparts a nice shine to otherwise dull looking hair. The quantity in the bottle is a lot – even after 6 months I have enough serum to last me another 2 months for sure.

Unfortunately the results of the hair serum don’t last too long if you are continuously sitting in an air conditioned room. I feel that by the end of the day some frizz returns on my hair (though the shine still remains). Also I need to apply it everyday because it doesn’t last until my next hair wash. I have used other serums which don’t need to be reapplied unless you wash your hair.

And the biggest disappointment was the claim about split ends. I should have known better that a hair serum alone cannot help prevent split ends. In the past six months the split ends have just increased and I really need a hair cut now Sad smile

This is one product I will surely give a miss and will switch back to my old serum soon.

Details at a glance:
Packaging: sturdy plastic – travel friendly
Texture: oily to touch but does not cause oiliness in the hair
Fragrance: light but non-bothersome
Price: Rs 240 (100 ml)

What I like:
  • imparts a nice shine
  • does not weigh down the hair
  • can be applied to both wet and dry hair
  • travel friendly packaging
What I don’t like
  • does not prevent split ends as claimed
  • does not last the entire day under air conditioned environment

    1. yes Anubha, you can surely apply a hair serum. Serums help tame the hair and also keep them tangle free. Just make sure not to apply too much else they will make your hair oily looking
