NBBN Theme Post: Monsoon Tips and Tricks

Everyone loves the rains (well I think almost everyone does!) I love to go out and get drenched in the rain at times and then come back home to hot pakoras with tea.

While monsoon’s can be a lot of fun specially the dancing in the rain bit, there are a lot of things you need to take care off during monsoons. From makeup, clothes, to special care for leather products, you must know the tricks to enjoy the monsoon to its fullest.

  • Make sure you are carrying an umbrella with you if you travel a lot. You surely don’t wont to ruin your best dress or hair because of the rain.
  • Try and keep your dressy shoes away and stick to something like floaters which will let you enjoy the rain without worrying about the shoes all the time. If you must wear dressy shoes, carry them with you and change from floaters to your classic stilettos once you have reached the venue.
  • Try wearing breezy light weight clothes that can dry faster in case you get wet.

Makeup During the Monsoons Makeup During the Monsoons
  • Try sticking to a minimalistic look – it will make you appear fresher throughout the day.
  • If you wear Kajal, eye liners, and mascara try and switch to the waterproof variants.
  • If the humidity makes you sweat a lot try dipping your face in ice-cold water (or rubbing an ice cube on your face) before applying any makeup.
  • If you are using colors (eye shadow, eye liner, lipstick, blush) switch over to more brighter hues to bring some brightness to the skin as monsoons can sometimes make your face appear very dull.

Hair Care in the Monsoons
  • Irrespective of what season it is hair looks best if it is clean – so shampoo and condition properly.
  • Monsoon can make your hair more frizzy so apply a daily care hair serum to the hair to control the frizz.
  • Avoid the rain on your head by covering it with an umbrella as rain water can make the hair harder.
  • Dry your hair properly before tying it up to ensure the dampness doesn’t cause dandruff.

Taking Care of Leather in the Monsoons

Taking Care of Leather in the Monsoons
  • First and foremost try and avoid using leather in the monsoons, the humidity is going to cause harm to it.
  • If you do wear leather boots or carry a leather purse and it gets wet, make sure to dry it properly (it may take a few days for that to happen) before using it again. For boots/shoes it is best to keep changing the shoes and not wear the same pair daily – this will ensure that the shoes gets enough time to dry (even if it is not wet, it will be damp in the humid weather)
  • If you are storing away your leather during the monsoons wrap it well before stacking it away. The storage should again be absolutely dry (wrap it in paper or muslin but make sure not to use newspapers or printed papers that can transfer the print onto your leather). This is required otherwise leather can catch a lot of moss during the humid days.
