It had been almost 10 years since I walked the streets of Janpath, soaking in all the color and little trinkets. Last weekend I went out with a friend to have lunch at Savarna Bhawan on Janpath. To my surprise the streets of Janpath were almost empty - no hoarders, no crowds pushing each other - it was total bliss. You will appreciate this only if you have been to Janpath on a regular crowded day.
For those of you who don't know what am I talking about - Janpath is one of the main roads of Delhi which boasts of a market place loaded with trinkets from all over India. From the dresses, bedsheets, decoration pieces, jewellery to all those glitzy trinkets, you will find something to take back home for sure.

And these gorgeous neck pieces - these usually sell online for around Rs 600- Rs 700 a piece but here you can get them for as low as Rs 200 - it all depends on how well you bargain! I am horrible at bargaining so I need a friend who is good at it or else I stick to my online purchases :(

I hope you enjoyed going through these pictures. I do wish I could spend more time there and actually shop! Came back with a cotton jumpsuit (from the clothes shops not pictured above) - great for summers and very pocket friendly!

DeleteI have been to this area only once in 2005, when i went to attend my cousin's marriage. After that I have spent 5 years in Delhi but never got a chance to be at Janpath. This post refreshed some nice memories. I had bought very high quality woodden combs and silk scarfs from the shops on the main road. I am sure a lot must have changed in all these years. The pics were a feast to look at :) Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe shops have become more permanent types - earlier there used to be more shack sort of shops but there are less of the shacks now. On a Sunday it just seemed so blissful :)
