The Chrome Nail Trend - How To Use Chrome Powder Without Gel Polish

Shiny, mirror like nails are a huge trend these days, To achieve the look you need to use what is called a chrome powder and a gel polish.

I am not too fond of gel polishes (though I love the final look!). I just find them tedious to do. While searching for how to use gel polish to create the chrome nail effect I came across www.oceansofbeauty.com which sells Chrome Powder and special top coat that allows you to do chrome nails without using a UV lamp. The products are from Sparkle & Co.

The whole process of creating chrome nails is quite simple.
First you need to apply your preferred shade of regular polish. I chose to use black. Once the polish dried I applied an even coat of the Top Pure top coat. Then sit back and let it dry completely - it took slightly longer to dry as compared to my normal top coats. The texture of Top Pure is almost like a gel polish top coat but you don't need to cure it under a UV light or LED lamp.

Once it is dry, take the sponge tip applicator, pick up a tiny amount of chrome powder (gently dip the applicator into the chrome powder pot) and start rubbing the applicator on your nail. Rub it in circular motions covering every nook and cranny of the nail. As you keep rubbing you will notice the mirror effect coming into play.

If your application of Top Pure is not even, the mirror effect will also appear uneven. Make sure you dust off all extra chrome powder (you can use the brush end of the applicator or any other clean brush).

You may need to repeat the step of Top Pure followed by chrome powder in order to completely cover the nails. Once you are satisfied end with a final coat of Top Pure. When it dries, seal the edges with a coat of Sparkle & Co. Seal. If you do not seal the edges the Top Pure will start peeling off in about a day (like Fevicol does!)

And here is the final effect on my nails. I kept one nail black on which I tried to stamp the chrome powder but wasn't successful, nevertheless I liked the overall outcome.

Hope you enjoyed this post and would be keen to try this trend out. Stamping over chrome nails is something I'd like to try next.
 Have a bright week ahead!

  9. The chrome trend looks so cool, but I would be afraid I would ruin them quickly and then all the time I took would go to waste. I am pretty hard on my nails. But your results look fantastic!
