Simple Brown Smokey Eyes with Winged Liner Tutorial

I have read so many posts about brown smokey eyes and learnt from so many blogs that I read, that I have finally decided to share what I usually do in terms of brown smokey eyes.

I hope this post will be helpful to all the girls out there who are new to smokey eyes and want to try them out without using too many products!

First a look at what we will achieve by the end of this tutorial.

Now to begin we need the following products
products used - brown smokey eyes with winged liner
Products Used
You will need
I1. A basic eye shadow nude color for the base (I have used the second shade from the left from this quartet from Revlon)
I2. A dark brown eye shadow (I have used the deepest brown from the eye shadow quartet)
I3. A brown eye liner pencil (if you want a more deeper look you can use a black kajal pencil or black pencil liner) - this is a retractable pencil liner from Revlon
I4. A black felt tip liner (or any black liquid liner) - this one in the picture is from Diana of London reviewed HERE
I5. A blending brush (mine is from E.L.F.)

I will be using the numbers I1 to I5 to denote which product I am talking about in the description that follows so that its easy to refer to the product being used.

So lets get started.

Step 1. First and foremost begin by applying the base shade (I1) to the entire upper eye lid.
Step 1 - brown smokey eyes with winged liner
Step 1:  Brown Smokey Eyes with Winged Liner
This will give us a smooth even base for the entire lid (you can replace this with any foundation or concealer that you may have in case you don’t have a base color)

Step 2. Now take your black eye liner (I4) and begin from 2/3rd of the outer corner of the eye moving outwards and draw a slanted line across the eye lid as shown. You don’t have to be very precise in applying this as we will smudge over this in later steps.

Step 2:  Brown Smokey Eyes with Winged Liner
Make sure you do not extend the line too far. The farthest you should go in order to achieve a good winged look should be to the edge of your eye aligned with the place your eyebrow ends and not beyond that. Also extend the beginning of the line and draw it towards the inner corner of the eye making sure you maintain the slant (that is the line is thicker on the outside but thinner as you move inwards towards the eye)

Step 3. Next beginning from the point you ended in the previous step draw a line coming inwards to the corner of the eye.

Step 4. Now we will fill in this area with the black liner completely.

Step 4:  Brown Smokey Eyes with Winged Liner

Step 5. Take the brown liner (I3) and draw a heavy thick line above the black line you just drew.

Step 5:  Brown Smokey Eyes with Winged Liner
The line should be thick enough to cover almost half your eye lid.

Step 6. Take the blending brush (I5) and smudge the brown eyeliner making it spread the color on the entire eye lid leaving out the area under the eye brow. Smudge it and merge it with the black line as well.

Step 6:  Brown Smokey Eyes with Winged Liner

Step 7. Now take the dark brown eye shadow (I2) and apply it on the outer corner of the eye moving inwards to about 1/3rd of the eyelid. I applied it with the blending brush only and blended it well on the eyelid.

Step 7:  Brown Smokey Eyes with Winged Liner

Step 8. Again take your black eye liner and go over the black winged line that you drew in step 1. This is because the initial line we drew gets covered with some of the eye shadow. But we do this twice to ensure that the winged look lasts longer.

Step 8:  Brown Smokey Eyes with Winged Liner

Step 9. To finish off, take the basic eye shadow (or any highlighter if you have one) and apply it to the area just under the eye brows, in the center of your eye lid and to the inner corner of the eye. After this step you may want to touch up your liner again but I still do this part in the end so that I can see the final look before doing the highlighting.

Step 9:  Brown Smokey Eyes with Winged Liner

And now for the final look I leave you with some pictures of my eyes. I know my photos aren’t that great but I guess you can get an idea about this look. This look can be carried off during the day as well. The brown liner that you use can be a lighter brown to give a day time smokey effect look. You can also replace the brown shadow with any other color that you like to create different color smokey eye looks!
