When you are at a flea market, you are looking for bargains, either items that you need and are looking to purchase for cheap, or for under-priced goods that you want to buy and then sell on eBay or elsewhere to turn a profit.  Since you are a not alone in your quests, you have to know what to look for and what to avoid when you’re perusing thing flea markets.  You don’t want to waste your time on duds or one-way dead-ends.  You also don’t want to invest too much on what you think will be a great profit turner only to realize you were barking up the wrong tree.  Part of being successful is being prepared and having a knowledge base of what to look for and what to avoid.  We’re here to help you with knowing what to look for.

Vintage Electronics

There is a huge secondary market now for older electronics, particularly stereo receivers and guitar amplifiers.  These are commodities that do not necessarily decrease in value with age, and in fact, some are worth far more than they ever retailed for when they were new.  Of course you can’t just buy any old electronics item and expect it to have value.  But if you know what to look for, you can find some gems.  For guitar amplifiers, anything by Fender or Peavey is most likely going to have some resale value.  A lot of times they will perhaps not work, but the repairs involved to get them back to life can be cheap: new tubes or new capacitors.  These are not expensive or heavily involved repairs.  Same goes for vintage stereo receivers.  They may not be in working order, but the important parts were built well, and the repairs they need will be well worth what you can resell them for with proper resoldering and cleaning.

Watches

Similarly, if a watch doesn’t tell time, what worth is it?  Well, a lot of watches you find at a flea market are still impressive and beautiful pieces of jewelry that have just lost their resale value because their primary, intended function doesn’t work.  However, you can easily repair watches you find at flea markets at places like a rolex watch service like http://thewatchbuyersgroup.com.  Oftentimes, they just need a new spring or other simple-to-replace mechanics, and your watch you got for $5 can be turned into a $200 sale with only about $15-20 worth of repair.  That’s profit you can take to the next flea market.

Vinyl Records

There is a huge market these days for rare and good-quality vinyl records.  If you go to most stores in any major city, they will be fairly well-picked through and you won’t be able to find any gems.  But if you hit up a flea market, making sure to be there extremely early (read: when the gates open) you have a great chance of finding some incredible records that you will be able to sell for a huge profit online.  First of all, you need to make sure the records are in good condition – they don’t have to be in mint, but look for writing on the sleeves or scratches on the disc itself.  You also want to look for where they were made, and what era they were recorded, and who the players are.  Do research online to see what to look for, and when you find a record, pounce.
