Honeymoon Travel Diaries: Mauritius Long Beach Golf & Spa Resort - Part 2

Hi friends! I left off my last post on Mauritius Long Beach Golf & Spa Resort by taking you through the different restaurants available at the resort. Today I'll take you through the different activities you can do at the resort and otherwise while you are in Mauritius.

Spending our evenings watching the sun set by the infinity pool was our favourite during our stay at Long Beach. While in Mauritius you cannot miss out on beach and water activities. First up on our list was an undersea walk activity - we were supposed to do it at a beach close to Ambre so we decided to take a quick tour of the resort first. 

Ambre has a gorgeous property too and a beach that will pull you out into the waters no matter how hard you try to do otherwise. Its a quaint little resort on its own with all the facilities you could ask for. It has its own spa as well as a lot of free water activities at the resort itself.

After a visit to Ambre we headed off to the Golf Course at Ile Aux Cerfs where the rest of our day was planned. The Golf Course is a haven in itself. A wide expanse of the golf course overlooking the beautiful blue sea, this has to be Asia's most beautiful spot specially when you are at pot 11.

With the sun shining bright and the winds blowing gently across the sea it was a day well spent.

Within the Long Beach Golf & Spa resort you get a lot of activity options as well. They have their own rock climbing wall, a huge play area for the kids, a gym, lap pool, and the famous Sea Spa. 

The ambience of the spa is simply amazing and it is located away from the busier parts of the resort. With stone steps taking you across the water into your spa room, tranquility engulfs you the moment you walk inside. The wellness treatments at the Sea Spa are developed around Thali Sens. Thali Sens is a concept from the French-based marine cosmetology and thalassotherapy specialist Thalion.

Both of us decided to get a massage done to relax our senses. Sea Spa products made out of natural sea salt were used on us and the attendants were very gentle. An hour of bliss later we were all relaxed for a romantic evening at the beach. 

If you are planning your trip to Mauritius here are some quick tips to help you out.

Planning a Trip To Mauritius

1. Plan your trip for atleast 5 days - make it 7 so that you can relax and enjoy the city.
2. Choose a resort to stay - eastern Mauritius has more calm beaches while western side is more popular for a noisy activity rich stay. For honeymooners we would recommend the east coast. You can always drive down to the western coast for your dose of activities.
3. Air Mauritius was the cheapest for us when we booked, book early to get discounted fare prices. Prices fluctuate based on the rate of the US dollar and tickets are more expensive as you near your date of flying.
4. Indian citizens do not need a visa to enter Mauritius (there are other countries which also enjoy free entry and you can find the details on their website)
5. You can get a calling card easily at the airport or at local shops, matrix cards turn out to be costlier.
6. Pack a lot of cottons and comfy clothes. 
7. Make sure you bring your sunglasses along as well.
8. For footwear take a pair of smart casuals as well as a pair of flip flops for the beach. It is rude to wear flip flops when you enter a fine dining place and here your casual footwear would keep you looking smart.
9. Do not forget to take your sunscreen along - the sun is so bright that you are bound to get sun burnt if you are not careful
10. Swimming costumes are a must as resorts do not allow entry into the pools without proper costumes.
11. Convert your dollars into Mauritian Rupees at the airport, all tourist places will be much costlier and will charge more if you are paying directly in dollars.
12. Don't forget your camera and an extra set of batteries.

What To Do In Mauritius

1. Parasailing - this must be on top of your list if you want to experience something very romantic with your partner. Its easy, safe and lots of fun. You will need to hand over your belongings to someone on the shore (its usually safe and theft free so you don't have to worry) - hand over your camera to one of the crew members who can click your pictures while you sail away.
2. Under water sea walk - if you can't swim don't get scared. Under water sea walk is a special activity where they make you wear an oxygen helmet and tie a weight belt around your waist. The result is that you can walk under water without having to know swimming. You walk around with your partner, feed the fishes and get clicked by the crew. The cost of the activity does not include cost of a CD of your pictures so be prepared to shell out extra money for those precious memories.
3. Walk with the lions - at Casela Park in Mauritius there are a lot of activities - you can spend almost two days at this place if you want to cover everything. But one activity you will enjoy is a walk with the lions. Our guide helped us take some amazing pictures with the beautiful white lions and their cute cubs. This is one experience you cannot miss.
4. Catamaran Cruise - a cruise across the gorgeous blue sea is bound to leave an imprint in your heart forever and if you can do it with the one you love - nothing can beat that. Make sure you leave on time from your resort (pickup charges are extra unless you have bought a full package) The cruise has good food, drinks and music to sway you away. It takes you to an island where you can relax and soak in the sun before you head back to shore.
5. Shopping - although Mauritius isn't really a shopping destination you can surely pick up some souveigniers for your friends and family back home. Head over to the little market at the Cauldron Waterfront (not the big mall like place but instead to the local market)
6. Whenever you get time, just walk on the beach barefoot. No point coming to a beach destination if you don't plan to spend time at the beach.
7. Couple dinner at the beach - a lot of resorts offer this - a personalised lunch or dinner by the beach for the two of you - we had a wonderful candle light dinner setup by Long Beach Golf & Spa Resort for us with a menu that was lip smacking and an ambience that was straight out of a hollywood movie!
