Holi Hai - Holi Nail Art - Splatter Colors (With Tutorial)

I had so much fun creating this nail art - splatter color nail art for Holi. For my non-Indian friends, Holi is a festival of colors celebrated across India to mark the beinning of spring. People play with colors drenching each other so much that by the end of the day its hard to recognize who-is-who. You can read more about Holi and its significance HERE.

My nail art today is an attempt to showcase the use of color on Holi. I have used a splatter technique which basically involves the use of an old tooth brush and some acrylic paints. You can substitute acrylics with polish but I find using acrylics much more easier.

First coat your  nails with a while nail polish. Let it dry completely. Then apply some oil or vaseline all around the nails and fingers. This is because we are going to get super messy and we don't want to spend hours cleaning the hands after finishing the nail art.

I starting by dipping the bristles of the tooth brush in a tiny amount of paint and then sprayed it by brushing the bristles from a distance  such that the paint splattered on my nails. I repeated this with different colors starting with yellow, orange and then moving onto darker colors.

Between each color let the paint dry a bit so that paints don't mix with each other. Also clean the brush with water before changing color. And don't forget to keep a newspaper under your hand so that you don't spray the paint all over.

Once the splatter effect was done I let the whole thing dry. Then gently wipe off all the extra paint on your hands using a wet cloth, acrylics are good because you can simply wipe off, no need to use any acetone.

Then using a thin brush I wrote the alphabets H O L I on the fingers and 'hai' in Devanagri (Hindi alphabet) which basically means "Its Holi"
