Last week I was invited over to the CaratLane's launch of the world's first virtual jewellery try-on app. If you follow me on Instagram I am sure you saw the live feed with a few posts from the event (loads of jewellery pics at the end of this post!)
The CaratLane App features some cutting edge facial recognition technology and 3D imaging techniques that provide you a life-like try-on experience.

A fellow blogger Shruti volunteered to try out the app as we watched to see the really cool features of the app. All you have to do is get under a good lighting condition and the app will talk to you telling you how to go about using the try on feature. You first centre your face in a given area, then it will ask you to slowly turn your head, first to the left and then to the right while it images your face and ears.

Once your facial features have been captured you can try on any pair of earrings and see how they will look on you in person. You can swipe across your 3D image and see the earrings from the front as well as from the side angle. The try-on feature is currently limited to earrings (although I must admit that is the most important try-on feature we girls need!) CaratLane plans to expand this to all other jewellery they have on board.
I am sure this is going to be a huge hit because women normally prefer seeing how the jewellery would look on them before buying it and now that this feature is available, online jewellery shopping is going to take on a whole new meaning.
According to Mithun Sacheti, Co-founder and CEO of CaratLane, “We want to help our customers discover the perfect piece of jewellery that is right for them. With the CaratLane app they will be able to browse through 1000’s of earrings and see exactly how it would look on them, before deciding to buy. They can also share their favourite looks on Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter. We believe that the app by itself will be an addictive experience for women and that it will transform the way jewellery shopping is done in india.”
CaratLane is also a pioneer in try-at-home feature for jewellery - so if you want to see a product before you buy it you can request it to be sent to your home, see it and pay if you like it. If you are in West Delhi area then you can also go and check out their store at Subhash Nagar mall for some exquisite designs!
