Ethicare & Ethinext Acne Care - How To Treat Acne For Oily-Skin

For any of you who need basic skin care for acne prone skin and do not want to splurge too much on fancy expensive brands then do read on.

I have already shared a few products from Ethicare Remedies and Ethinext pharma. The products I am sharing today form an acne care regimen that you can follow if you have oily acne-prone skin. First of all let me introduce you to the set of products to use.

OK so we have 6 products there but don't worry you don't have to use all of them every day. Here is a list of what all product are shown above (you can click on the name to purchase it online)
  1. Akmasq - pimple care complexion mask (Rs 170 for 75gm)
  2. Acmed cleansing pads
  3. Sebogel - salicylic acid and nicotinamide gel (Rs 199 for 30gm)
  4. Cutishine - facewash for daily cleansing (Rs 159 for 70gm)
  5. Adaclin - clindamycin and nicotinamide cream
  6. Sepfil - mandelic acid cream (Rs 180 - 30ml)

Let us now see the steps that you need to follow and the products that help in each step.

First step to treat acne is to use a face wash to clean your face twice a day. Cutishine is a golden colored face wash that comes in a tube form with a flip cap. It is aimed at improving the complexion while controlling acne. It has glycolic acid, salicylic acid, liquorice extract, tea tree oil and aloe vera. The face wash is very gentle and does not leave the skin with a stretchy dry feeling. I have selected this particular face wash as part of a acne-care regimen because often acne leaves behind scars; using a face wash that improves complexion helps ensure that scaring will not happen.

After cleaning the face it is important to apply a cream that can help get rid of the acne. A good salicylic acid cream helps in doing that. For mornings use Sebogel which works on pimples and skin infections. Sebogel also helps to open up closed pores. Its a clear fragrance free gel so you can apply this below makeup as well. (Wait for the gel to get completely absorbed before applying any makeup)

In the evening you must wash your face again. After washing use the acmed cleansing pad to wipe the entire face. Acmed cleansing pad lotion works like a toner as well. You can read more about Acmed in my review HERE
At night before sleeping apply Adaclin. I have used clindamycin based creams for years recommended by my dermatologist and it really works well.

As an extra care for your skin you should apply a face mask at least once a week. Akmasq is a face mask that contains tea tree oil, turmeric, chandan (sandalwood) and vitamins.

O.S.T. Original Pure Vitamin C 20 Serum - Pre-view

I wasn't a serum user and always wondered if these type of 'lotions' actually benefit the skin or are simply terms used for marketing things to the consumer. But when I tried out the OFRA B5 serum (reviewed HERE) I really liked what it did to my skin. That was when I first read up about serums seriously and realized what I had been missing.

What are the benefits of Vitamin C

When I got to try out the OST Vitamin C20 Serum I first did a bit of research on what Vitamin C does to your skin and how it works. So first let me share with you my findings

  1. Vitamin C prevents oxidization of skin (for proof you can apply vitamin C to a slice of an apple and you will notice it does not oxidize like a regular slice does - vitamin C acts like a barrier) - it does the similar thing to your skin - and hence prevents aging.
  2. Vitamin C is listed as Ascorbic Acid in skin care products. To make direct application gentle for the skin it is usually mixed with glycerin.

OFRA Acne Treatment Mask - Review

In my March Vellvette box I got a small pot of OFRA acne treatment mask. I have used this for over 2 weeks now and am ready to spill the beans.

OFRA Acne Treatment Mask

My sample came in a tiny pot with a black lid. Original packaging is also a tub packaging.

The mask is white in color and has a very strong fragrance of clove oil. Clove oil is known to heal acne. Texture of the mask is like clay based masks.

What the company claims

"Acne Treatment Mask is suitable for problem skin, acne, pimples or monthly eruptions associated with menstruation. It is also ideal for getting rid of newly formed pimples. Acne Treatment Mask consists of a strong formula, which will assist in drying and healing pimples within a few hours of use. Ofra Cosmetics Laboratories' Acne Treatment Mask contains sulfur which is a powerful ingredient to kill bacteria and heal the skin (not recommended for people allergic to sulfur).

Apply a thin layer directly on pimples and erupted area in the evening before bedtime and leave on through the night. Wash off in the morning. In case of acne apply once a week all over as a mask and wash after 10 minutes, avoiding the eye area. "

Skin Care for Acne Prone Skin - What Helped Me Control My Acne

Its been a long struggle as far as acne is concerned. In the end of December last year I got a bad bout of acne and have had to take extra care of my skin to finally get it to a state where I can step out without heavy makeup. This post is my attempt to share with you what worked for me, hoping that if you are going through the same phase, it will help you too.

My face broke out into big cystic acne on the jaw area and started to spread downwards on the neck. This was the first time I experienced acne on my neck and it was awful.

Since I was not new to acne I knew what I had to do. Thankfully after following the routine regularly for 3 months I have been able to get it under control. I still have an occasional acne burst but its all under control now. The scars will of course take longer to heal and I am still working on that.

Alright so lets get started.

Skin Care Routine To Control and Heal Acne

Skin Care For Acne Prone Skin

Products Needed For Acne Control

A Good Face Wash

To start off you need a good cleanser for the face. Something that will remove all dirt, oils, makeup and yet be gentle on the skin. I used the Cosmedic SaliQT Active Body Wash on my face (as I had already mentioned in my review post HERE) - this body wash was so gentle that I tried it on my face and my face liked it a lot. If Cosmedic products are not available you can get hold of either the Himalaya Neem Face Wash (I have used this for over 4 years before I started experimenting with other products and I can really vouch for it), the Vedic Line Neem & Brahmi face wash reviewed HERE or the VLCC neem face wash (review coming soon). The Himalaya face wash is the most gentler of the lot.

Himalaya Acne-n-Pimple Cream - Review

Recent bad diet and low in-take of water gave me a bout of acne and I went back to a cream that had helped me earlier - the Himalaya Acne-n-Pimple Cream.

This is a quick review about this relatively effective and cheap cream that actually works.

Himalaya Acne-n-Pimple Cream

Himalay Acne-n-Pimple Cream

The cream comes in a travel friendly easy to use no-nonsense tube with a twist cap. A tube of 20gm is available at a price of Rs 45. The cream is creamy thick and has a non-greasy texture

How To Apply Acne-n-Pimple Cream

All you have to do is wash your face and apply it over the pimples. If you apply it over night you will see that the pimple reduces in size. With regular use over the pimple you will see the pimple 80-90% healed after which it seems to stop working. It does not work on very small pimples but only seems to work on pus-filled or larger acne. It makes the skin feel very smooth and soft - so on some days I use it in place of a moisturizer (on my oily skin)

My all time favourite - Himalaya Herbals Neem Face Pack - review

If there is one product I swear by for my skin - its the Himalaya Herbals Neem Face Pack.

This face pack is specially targeted for people with an oily skin and who suffer from acne.
Himalaya Herbals Neem Face Pack
Yeah I know the tube is almost empty - I've been using this for around a year now and I can't stop raving about it.
As you already know from my previous posts I suffer from acne on and off. But no matter what horrible things all the other products I keep trying, do to my skin, the Himalaya Neem Pack seems to get things back under control.

The pack comes in different sized tubes. I have the largest size which is about 200gm. The label states that the pack is anti-bacterial (due to the neem content) and it helps control oil, cleans clogged pores and prevents pimples. It imparts a glow to the skin. (Click on the image to enlarge it)

Directions for use are also clearly mentioned on the back. Since it is a ready-to-use pack you simply squeeze out the amount that you need and spread it on your face. The pack is dark green in color - mainly due to the neem content I think. It also has fuller's earth and turmeric.

The texture is thick so I suggest applying it to a slightly moist skin (just dab off water after washing your face - don't dry it completely). Spread the thick green paste all over your face and sit back and relax.

It takes about 10 minutes for the pack to dry but I like to keep it on for a bit longer. When it dries I can see it getting into my pores - I mean I can literally see where all my pores are. Once dry I moisten my skin again and scrub it off gently - I like to scrub instead of simply washing it off because that ways my skin gets a little extra cleaning. The instructions on the pack ask you to apply moisturiser after washing off the pack (because it is drying) but I have combination skin and have never felt the need to moisturise. I just let my squeaky clean skin breathe :)

This pack really works well for my skin - it dries out existing pimples, keeps the ones that are trying to form under check and makes the skin feel really nice.
