Bye Bye Dandruff, Hello Smooth Hair!

Hi friends! Winters and dandruff have always had a simultaneous occurrence in my life. I tend to get dandruff very easily hence I do opt for a weekly headwash with Head & Shoulders to cleanse my scalp of all buildup that actually caused dandruff.

Head & Shoulders 2-in-1 Smooth and Silky

For the past few weeks I've been regularly using the new Head & Shoulders 2-in-1 Smooth & Silky and liked it enough to share a quick review with you all.

Price: Rs 310 (360 mL) - buy online for Rs 263

The packaging is just the same as the standard Smooth & Silky shampoo. A flip top makes dispensing the right amount of product easy while in the shower.

Garnier Ultra Blends Shampoos

It only happens sometimes that you get surprised by a box of hair products.
Well this box that I'm talking about was just breathtaking in the way the packaging was done.

Garnier Ultra Blends Shampoos
Garnier Ultra Blends Shampoos

Garnier  has launched its range of Ultra Blends Shampoos and I was sent four of them boxed together. First let's look at the unboxing!

Garnier Ultra Blends Shampoos

The box contained a lot of cards with the details of each shampoo, an elegant scroll with details about the Ultra Blends range, and an adorable pen drive shaped like an ultra blend shampoo bottle.

The range contains 5 different shampoos targeted towards different hair problems. The shampoos boast of natural ingredients and is said to be paraben free.

Each shampoo comes in a flip top cap and has a unique fragrance. The box I was sent contains the 100mL sized bottles but larger sizes are available.

Price: Rs 230 (340mL) [The bigger the packaging the more economical the shampoo turns out to be]
You can purchase the smaller ones to try out first - Rs 55 for 60mL

I was sent four of these five. Let's take a look at each one of the shampoos.

Unboxing: My Envy Box With The Label Life - April 2016

After a super successful jewellery box in March, My Envy Box has teamed up with The Label Life (read Bipasha Basu!) to curate the April 2016 beauty box.

A pretty peach pink box with speckled gold detailing on top, this month's box is another great addition to my collection of boxes.

Let's go dig in to see what all we have here!

1. Fran Wilson Moodmatcher Lipstick in Green (Full Size - Price: Rs 590) - this is the most fun product I found in the box. A green coloured lipstick that is going to change color when you apply it on your lips. On my lips it turned a beautiful luscious red. The texture is that of a lip balm and this lipstick just stays - like forever because it leaves behind a matte lip stain that won't budge!

Hair Challenge With Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition - Update

Hi friends, if you all remember I had taken up a months challenge to try out the Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition range in an attempt to restore some sense to my mane. My main challenge was to help restore my damaged hair that had become unduly frizzy with the changing weather.

Its been a month of regular use of both the Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition shampoo and conditioner.

Hair Challenge With Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition - Update

I love the amazing fragrance and the after feel that this shampoo & conditioner give. You can read the review of the product after I used it earlier in the post Garnier-Fructis-Triple-Nutrition-Review.

Now lets see whether I was able to get any success after a month long challenge. So just like my initial review with the shampoo and conditioner, my hair feels smooth after every use of the shampoo and conditioner. My hair is more manageable, feels less unruly and is softer to touch. I have also recently got some hair highlights which can leave the hair drier but so far my hair is not complaining.

You can buy the shampoo and conditioner online HERE

The conditioner leaves a very pleasant after smell in the hair. It also helps me comb through my hair more easily. In the picture below you can see my hair dried naturally after a wash with the Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition shampoo and conditioner. The hair has been hand combed.

My Hair Story - The Strong And Smooth Hair Challenge

At the start of the year I posted about a shampoo that Garner launched sometime late last year. The summery fresh bottles in a bright yellow. I am talking about the Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition shampoo and conditioner. Both have the wonderful signature fragrance found in all Garnier Fructis products.

My Hair Story - The Strong And Smooth Hair Challenge, garnier fructis triple nutrition
My Hair Story - The Strong And Smooth Hair Challenge

I normally keep switching between different hair products, a few washes with one shampoo followed by another. Recently with the change in weather my hair has again started misbehaving. And I am struggling with hair fall, a weird frizziness and basically hair that feels damaged.

So I have decided to take on a challenge - I am going to regularly use the shampoo and conditioner from Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition range. My goal is that at the end of this month I should get back my soft hair which I can style without any worries. I love to let my hair lose and just put a clutch clip for work. But lately I have had to tie it up in a bun so that I don't have a back full of fallen hair strands. Winters are awful as all hair strands that fall off love to cling on to your best sweater. It feels awful. That is why I've been tying my hair up into a bun. No lose hair, no hair fall.

I am hoping by the end of February I will be able to leave my hair open again.

Wish me luck!

Review: Ketonext Shampoo (Anti-Dandruff)

Ketonext Shampoo is a medicated shampoo by Ethinext Pharma India made of ketoconazole which is aimed to help keep your hair dandruff free. When the weather started to change I noticed a weird itchiness on the scalp and decided to start using a ketoconazole shampoo before dandruff would settle in.

Review: Ketonext Shampoo, anti-dandruff
Review: Ketonext Shampoo

Ketonext shampoo comes in a small tube with a flip cap. The shampoo is dark pink in color. It has a medicated smell but nothing bad or overpowering, infact its quite pleasant compared to other medicated shampoos I have used earlier. I started using this shampoo on alternate hair wash sessions and after the second wash with this shampoo my itchiness was gone. It lathers well but you need to use a bit more product as compared to your regular shampoos.

What surprised me with this shampoo was that it left my hair feeling quite soft.

Iraya Henna Conditioning Shampoo Review

Iraya is known for its Ayurveda products and today I'm sharing my experience in using their Henna Conditioning Shampoo.

Iraya Henna Conditioning Shampoo Review
Iraya Henna Conditioning Shampoo Review

What the company claims:
"Gives bounce and volume with lustre. Improves hair texture.

For chemically damaged/ dull hair

With henna leaf extract, the essential oils of tea tree and rosemary, this conditioning shampoo cleanses the hair while improving its overall texture. Henna has been known since ancient times to give bounce and volume; tea tree wonderfully cleanses and adds lustre and shine."

Iraya Henna Conditioning Shampoo Review
Iraya Henna Conditioning Shampoo Review
My Experience
The Iraya Henna conditioning shampoo is a yellow colored shampoo. Its texture is a gel like base (not the regular creamy shampoos). The fragrance is not exactly henna but a blend of very mild fragrances - quite common to ayurvedic products.

It lathers well and leaves hair feeling very clean. I have used it after oiling of hair and it did a decent job of cleaning the hair of the oil without drying out my hair. Even without oil my hair feels really clean and soft after using this shampoo. It actually reminds me of the baby shampoos we used to have as kids, it's really mild but does the job well.

L'Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Shampoo And Conditioner Review

Hello everyone, today I'm reviewing the L'Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Shampoo And Conditioner. There is another product - the 6 Oil Nourish oil that I've used as well but that I will review in a separate post.

L'Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Shampoo And Conditioner Review
L'Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Shampoo And Conditioner Review
Both the L'Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner come in similar looking bottles with flip caps. While the shampoo bottle cap is on the top the conditioner cap is at the bottom (so that the conditioner flows to the cap while it stands and its easier to dispense it when required).

L'Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish range has been "created to provide complete nourishment to your hair from root to tip with 6 Micro Oils™making it soft, shiny, thick, strong, smooth and manageable"
L'Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Shampoo And Conditioner Review
L'Oreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Shampoo And Conditioner Review
I found both the shampoo and conditioner to be quite good. The fragrance is nice and they do leave my hair quite manageable. But I am not as impressed as I thought I would be. And that is because there is no change in the frizz of my hair. For me that shows unhealthy hair so while the claim about soft and manageable hair is true I do wish this could control the frizz.

The range says you can use the conditioner on the roots of your hair - I personally do not like putting conditioner on the roots as it makes my hair oily too soon (within half a day of washing). But this surprisingly does not make the hair oily even after 24 hours. I do not apply this on the scalp - from roots I mean as close to the scalp as I can get without putting the product on the scalp.

The shampoo lathers very well. And the conditioner leaves my hair feeling very soft and they tangle less. It is actually the 6 Oil Nourish hair oil which helps in taming the frizz and more about that in the next post.

My rating for this duo would be a 4/5

The Love Long Hair Blind Test - Update Part 2

So after about 7 washes with the Love Long Hair shampoo and conditioner I have another update for you all before the actual name gets revealed (I am super anxious to know what it is!!)

The Love Long Hair Blind Test - Update Part 2
The Love Long Hair Blind Test - Update Part 2
While I love the softness it imparts, the volume it gives, I am not liking that my hair becomes frizzy a day after using the shampoo and conditioner. I do not oil my hair so I love the softness I get after using this. I think my hair is not liking the conditioner too much - I ready somewhere that hair can change texture with too much SLES so maybe that is causing the frizz. I think once the weather moves on to the summer months I need to revisit this duo. Again its too early to comment whether my hair has become long or not but it surely feels good to touch. I know others who look at my mane must be thinking whats wrong with me!

So I've adjusted that by using a light serum the day after washing. Two days after the wash it becomes very manageable even without the serum. Its actually surprising that the hairfall I noticed in the initial use of the shampoo-conditioner is no longer there - so yay! I was a bit scared if I would be able to continue this blind test or not but now I can say I am happily finishing off the bottles that I have.

Sorry I haven't been able to click pictures of the actual shampoo and conditioner since they landed up in the bathroom right after I  opened the packaging to click the initial pics. Both are white, shampoo is a bit runny as compared to the thick conditioner.

The reveal of the Love Long Hair shampoo and conditioner happens very soon. I will update you as soon as I have the information in hand :)

The shampoo and conditioner do contain SLES but most of the ones that I use do so I'm not really against this ingredient in my hair care products so long as the effect is not negative.

Both the products smell amazing (I think all Sunsilk products do - remember the earlier keratinology range that I was head over heels in love with - you can check out the review HERE)

Coming to what my experience with these products is - LOVE - that sums it up. My hair feels amazingly smooth, healthy and bouncy. It just feels like life has been injected into them. My sister's been using this since the first bottles landed in her market and she was the first one to recommend this to me. My hair is dry but I have an oily scalp - this duo simply balances everything out and makes my hair oh-so-manageable. Everyone in the family who has tried it out has loved it. The Ginseng Root & Oil is surely working its magic.

Up For A Blind Test - Love Long Hair Range Shampoo & Conditioner

A week ago I was contacted by a lady with a sweet voice over the phone asking if I was up for a blind test of a shampoo and conditioner - I would not be told about the brand and other qualities of the products. I know a lot of you would be skeptical about trying stuff like that but me, I am a bit crazy like that - I said sure why not! And today I was surprised with a little box that had a logo saying 'Love Long Hair' (long hair - me wants!!!)

L'oreal Paris Fall Repair 3X Shampoo and Conditioner - Review

This is a quick review of the L'oreal Paris Fall Repair 3x Shampoo and Conditioner. I thought I'd review them together as I've been using them together and have some points to mention here.

So to begin with we take a look at the packaging - a lovely combo of black and purple, both the shampoo and conditioner come in the same packaging. While the shampoo stands on the bottom of the bottle, the conditioner stands on its cap to ensure its easy to take out the conditioner which is thicker in consistency.

I’ve never mentioned my little brother in any of my posts but today I have to – my dear brother is actually a very good reviewer of hair care products and I take his advice on new products in the market. One shampoo that he is currently using and has recommended Magic Mineral Shampoo by Dr OlenGin.

Patanjali Kesh Kanti Hair Cleanser Review

While sometime ago we looked at wonderful hair products, it is important to talk about hair products that are a complete no-no. Patanjali Kesh Kanti Milk Protein Hair Cleanser is one such product.

What the company claims

My Experience
I initially liked the shampoo – it would lather really well and made the hair feel smooth. BUT, after 2-3 hair washes I noticed my hair had started falling like mad. Yes that is all I can say, it is horrible if your hair is prone to hair fall. I had to use the remaining shampoo as a cleaner for the sink!

I am not doing a details at a glance section this time because I really do not recommend anyone to even try this one product.

Have you faced any such issues with any hair product – something that you simply throw away!

Hair Products Put to Test

Living in an area where the water supply is mainly hard water spells doom for your lovely tresses. In my fight against hair fall and split ends I finally put to test several shampoos, conditioners and hair masks to come up with a few that I really liked.

Coming up in the week ahead will be detailed reviews of these products. One by one as I showcase the goodness that I have found. Some will have their flaws but they all worked in one way or the other.

Nature’s Co Hibiscus Anti-Dandruff Hair Cleanser - Review

Nature’s Co has some really nice products and the next one on my list of trials is their Hibiscus Anti-Dandruff Hair Cleanser. I got a small sample along with their Grapefruit Sugar Body Scrub that I had reviewed earlier.

Mine came in a tiny little bottle (original packaging will be different). First lets see what the company claims about this gem.

“Rejuvenate, heal and nourish your hair with Hibiscus extracts. They restore your hairs natural barrier stimulating growth and leaving it dandruff-free and silky smooth. Furthermore, it prevents split ends forming, strengthens roots and acts as an anti-dandruff agent. Apply a small amount and gently massage into the hair and scalp area. Rinse with warm water and repeat if necessary. Because it is natural and gentle, it may be used daily.”

On the left is a picture of the little sample bottle I got. On the right is the original packaging (picture taken from company website)
Nature’s Co Hibiscus Anti-Dandruff Hair Cleanser
The sample came in a 15ml bottle – original packaging is 250ml so as you can see pictures are not to scale.

Now for the texture – the shampoo is not too thick in texture and is runny like most shampoos that are made from natural ingredients.

Matrix Biolage Fortifying Shampoo

I have long hair and am always looking for shampoos to help with the frizz. Hair fall is also a problem because the water in my area is hard water. I keep switching shampoos every now and then so that there is no build up of any one chemical. I prefer herbal shampoos but when I read some reviews about the matrix range  I had to give it a try.
I ordered this from the web and it cost me Rs 190 for a 200ml bottle. The bottle has a flip cap so its easy to use.

The shampoo is white in color and has a drool worthy fragrance if you like floral/fruity fragrances. Actually the fragrance is quite rich and not just floral - a little difficult to explain really - sometimes it feels like there is a hint of coconut fragrance as well. The fragrance doesn't last too long after you wash it off so it should be fine even if you don't like heavy fragrances in your shampoo. The texture is thick - just thick enough to give you a rich lather.

The back label says its surfactant based and you can clearly see the presence of SLS (sodium laureth sulfate) This is a rather bad chemical to be in any of our beauty products and is one downside of this otherwise good shampoo.

Now for the results - applying the shampoo to wet hair gives a very rich lather and I really enjoy massaging it all over my head. After washing it off my hair becomes clean, super soft and does not tangle at all. I love the results. I have been using it for about two weeks now and I am impressed - the frizziness is gone, hair feels smooth, shiny and tangle free.

What I like:
1. Fragrance - I love it
2. Creaminess of the shampoo
3. Gives excellent results

What I don't like:
1. Contains SLS

I will continue to use this until I lay my hands on the next shampoo worth giving a try.
