Best Eye Makeup For 2014

This year is about to come to an end. It has been a year of learning and today I wish to share a few of the best eye makeup I have seen this year. These are eye makeup looks done by bloggers and makeup artists across the globe. I have not picked out weird eye makeup. Rather this post is about wearable eye makeup that looks stunning.

So let us begin and see some awesome work done with the eyes this year. Please note that I will be giving name of the blogger/artist along each eye makeup picture as these are not pictures that I own. In case this is your eye makeup and you do not want me to use your picture please drop me a comment and I will gladly take it down. My purpose is to give an ode to the ones who have really inspired me in the year 2014.

What IS Your Eye Shape?

Before you can find the perfect makeup for your eye shape, you need to know what that shape is, right?  If you aren't already sure, use these descriptions to figure out which is closest to your own natural eye shape.

●     Deep Set Eyes: Large, and set deeper into the skull, creating the illusion of a more prominent brow bone.

●     Mono lid: Flat on the surface with little, if any, crease at all. The brown bone is much less defined.

●     Hooded Eyelids: Feature an extra layer of skin that droops over the crease, causing the eyelid to appear smaller.

●     Protruding Eyes: Create the appearance of projected lids in the eye socket area.

●     Upturned Eyes: Classic almond shape, with a natural lift at the eye corner.

●     Down turned Eyes: Sight drooping on the outer corners. (also sometimes called Almond Eyes)

●     Close Set Eyes: Less than one eyeball width apart from one another.

●     Wide Set Eyes: More than one eyeball width apart from one another.

Deep Set Eyes

Try to brighten up the natural shadowing produced by your eye shape by using a beige or warm metallic peach coloring on your lids. Highlight under your arches  using an illuminating crayon, and use waterproof mascara to avoid smudging.

Soft Pink Smokey Eyes Simple Tutorial and First FOTD

I finally after almost a year of blogging decided to share a full face - so this is my first ever FOTD, hope you all like it.

Pink Soft Smokey Eyes FOTD with Lotus Herbals MoistPetal Lipstick in Raspberry Punch

The challenge was to use minimum makeup so I did this using only 4 products that I will reveal as I present the steps.

I chose a soft pink smokey eye look - the face is bare without makeup (freshly washed) and on my lips I am wearing Raspberry Punch from Lotus Herbals Moistpetals range which I will be reviewing soon. (Yeah made use of the buy 1 get 1 free offer on HERE)

Now for the soft pink smokey eyes or do I say pink soft smokey eyes? Here are the steps in a picture (followed by text below)

Step 1: Start with clean eyes (if they are dry moisturize them with a non greasy eye cream - or use aloe vera - mine are bare)

Step 2: Use any pink eye shadow, I chose a coral pink which is actually a blush - the Bourjois Little Pot Blush in Rose Eclat (reviewed HERE) and cover the entire lid - add more colour on the lid and just one gentle swipe on the brow bone. If your pink is darker then skip the brow bone area. You can do this step using your finger, the brush present in the blush or use an eye shadow brush. I did mine using an eye shadow brush from E.L.F.

Step 3. Using a black eye liner (or kajal pencil) draw a thick line on on outer corner of the upper eye lid tapering it off as you go near the inner corner of the eye. I have used Maybelline Colossal Kajal (reviewed HERE)

Step 4. Using the same liner tightline your eyes (as shown in the image)

Step 5. Using the eye shadow brush smudge the black line starting from the outer corner moving towards the inner corner. When you smudging the outer corner smudge into the crease (only on the outer corner)

Step 6. Repeat step 3 but draw a thinner line than before and take it all the way towards the inner corner of the eye.

That is it. And here is a round up of all the products used on my face in the FOTD

Before the Maybelline colossal and Lakme eye conic ones were launched in the market, I was on the lookout for a dense kajal that was smudge free.

I was using the Himalaya one and was happy with it but I wanted to try and experiment new brands.
When I went to a beauty store this coloressence kajal caught my eye.

My Experience
This kajal is not at all smooth and it’s not gliding on my eyeline. It’s too hard and I can hardly see any difference after applying it. This is one of the worst kajal I have ever used. I personally didn’t like it. I was expecting a lot when it was written bridal kajal.
They have just used some fancy words on the package. It’s not that smudge free and waterproof too. It stayed only till one hour. Also the shade is light black. It’s not that deep or pigmented.

EOTW 1 – Bright Eyes

This post is my first Eyes of The Week post. And I am doing this as part of the Summer Eye Makeup Contest by Vanity No Apologies.

I am no expert on eye makeup and this is just my attempt to share with you what I did in a hope to get some constructive feedback. And if I win the contest that would simply be an icing on the cake!

First off let me apologize for the unkempt eyebrows which I tried to crop off but couldn’t completely hide.
In summers I prefer absolutely neutral look but when it comes to an evening out one really needs to jazz up the eyes and counter the boring dull days!
A purple smoky eye look is what I need to turn an otherwise dull evening into fun.


The base is done using the E.L.F. eyeliner and shadow stick in basic following the same technique that I used in the Simple Eye Make-up tutorial I did sometime back.

Then I used a purple shadow and covered the lid excluding the area under the brows. Next I took a pencil liner in black and drew a thick line on the upper lid and using a brush smudged it on the outer corners of the eye. I used the same purple and gently lined the lower lids.

Lastly I drew thick line on the lower and upper lid with a liquid pen-eye-liner from Diana of London (review coming up soon) I drew the upper line a little further out from the eye to give a slight winged look. And on the lower lid I did not line all the way – just lined it to about 2/3 of the waterline.

A closer look at my closed eye. As you can see the upper lid is also lined very thickly almost towards the center of the eye and it tapers off at the start and wings out at the end of the eye.

My Entry For Beauty Diaries Electrifying Eyes Contest

During my last post in a review of the Bourjois Khol & Contour eye liner pencil I had mentioned that I had entered in a give away for which I had to do an eye make-up.
The contest entry is finally published so I can now share with you the photos with the eye make-up details.

This is a contest hosted by Beauty Diaries and is sponsored by L'oreal where we are required to submit eye make-up and the theme is "Electrifying Eyes"
As you all know I have not dabbled in eye make-up (barring one post Simple Eye Makeup) so I was a bit sceptical on entering the give-away but then I thought I should at least enter - if nothing else I would get some practice on eye make-up :)

So here are a few pics from the contest entry

Now for a breakdown of what I did
The look has been done in the same manner as explained in the Simple Eye Makeup Tutorial. I began by covering the entire lid using ELF Shadow & Liner pencil in BASIC - this was applied right to brow bone area.
Then I took the ELF Shadow & Liner pencil in SMOKE and covered the lid area only.
Now was my favourite part. I took the Bourjois Khol & Contour pencil (shown in the review HERE) and applied this in a very thick line along the lash line. I followed this by gently smudging the colour all over the lid. This gave the 'electric' blue colour as you see in the pics.
After smudging it I reapplied along lash line but this time I applied a thinner line and did not smudge it.
I also lined my water line with the same pencil liner and was done!
I am not sure whether I will win the contest or not but I had fun doing this and I really liked the electric look it gave to my eyes.

Simple Eye Makeup

Now coming to the post - I have no idea how you girls click such lovely pics of your eyes. I tried but haven't had too much success.
I am going to share with you a simple eye make-up I did a few days ago with 3 eye pencils.

I do not have pics of individual steps but I am going to tell you how I got to the final look. Pictures below will tell you which areas I applied the product to.
First I took the E.L.F. eyeliner and shadow stick in basic and simply covered my entire lid with it going up to the brow. (The eyeliner part of this stick is brown and the shadow part is a golden beige called basic)
I also applied this to the inner corner of the eye.

Then I took the E.L.F. eyeliner and shadow stick in smoke (the eyeliner part is black and the shadow part is a smokey grey) and applied it all over the lid skipping the area just beneath the brow (basically up to the crease line)

Then I took the Bourjouis Kohl & Contour pencil in Bleu original and drew a thick line on my upper lid. I drew the line such that it was thicker on the outer corner. (I will review this sometime soon)

All the blending was done with my finger only as the E.L.F. eyeshadow is super smooth. There is no mascara as I don't like using it for a day time look.
